A big thank you to all who contributed to the LWVP Virtual Food Drive to support local families in need.  We raised more than $5,300.  There is always a need for contributions and volunteers, so your continued support is appreciated.  You can reach out to the Alameda County Community Food Bank here.  


Join LWVP for "Office Hours" on September 8th at 10:00 a.m.

Our next office hours will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.  We will have a preliminary review of the local, county, and state ballot measures that will be on our ballots in November, and will discuss ways to help get out the vote in our community and across the country.  And, as always, this is an informal discussion so feel free to bring your own ideas--and bring a friend too!

LWVP Presents "Can you trust the polls? Be better informed about what polls are (and are not)" with Polling Expert Amy Simon

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont will host an event on the credibility and mechanics of election polling with Amy Simon, a founding partner of Goodwin Simon Strategic Research. This free event will be live-streamed on the LWVP YouTube channel from 4:00-5:00pm on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

With the November 2020 election close at hand, viewers will learn how polls are constructed, fielded, and analyzed and will have a better understanding of how to interpret them.

A founding partner at Goodwin Simon Strategic Research, a national public opinion research firm, Amy Simon brings more than three decades of political experience to her work as a pollster and communications strategist. She conducts public opinion research on a variety of public policy issues domestically and globally. 

Amy has special expertise in conducting innovative qualitative and quantitative research on socially controversial and emotionally complex issues, with particular attention to developing effective messaging that has yielded a winning record on ballot measure campaigns.

This event can be viewed on Zoom or on YouTube.  Viewers may submit questions through Zoom chat or YouTube livestream comments, or email to lwvpiedmont@gmail.com.


Important Voting Information

If you have not already done so, please register to vote here.  You can check if you are registered using either the County or State website. Please vote early and ask your friends and family to do the same.  
You can drop off your mail-in ballot in the dropbox in Piedmont at the corner of Highland Way and Mountain Avenue by Wells Fargo and the mailboxes.  You can find additional drop boxes listed on the County website.
Alameda County also has information on polling places and changes due to COVID-19.  There will be fewer polling places this year, so please stay informed.  Accessible Voting Centers will be open over four days from Saturday October 31, 2020 through Tuesday, November 3, 2020.  Find an Accessible Voting Center here.  
Alameda County is also recruiting poll workers for the four in-person days.

The Education Trust--West Presents "Equity On the Ballot Women's Panel" on 9/2/2020

The Education Trust--West is presenting a program on Prop 16 entitled "Equity on the Ballot Women's Panel" on September 2, 2020 at 1:30 p.m.  It will be a virtual panel on why Prop 16 matters for the educational and economic empowerment of women.  The panel will include:

LWVP Supports Piedmont Ballot Measures TT & UU

 
The League of Women Voters of Piedmont supports the two Piedmont ballot measures that will be on the November ballot. The first is an increase in the City's transfer tax and the second is the authorization to sell bonds to completely rebuild the Piedmont Community Pool. We will be publishing Pros & Cons on these measures in the weeks to come.

Piedmont Racial Equity Campaign (PREC) Presents Housing Panel on September 24, 2020

Piedmont Racial Equity Campaign (PREC) is organizing an event co-sponsored with LWVP and Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee (PADC) about the history of racial segregation and housing in Piedmont, and steps that Piedmont can take to achieve a more equitable future.  Join us for the program on Zoom on September, 24, 2020 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

The Appreciating Diversity Film Series (ADFS) is proud to "remotely" present Suppressed: The Fight to Vote on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at 4:00 P.M., followed by a talk and discussion with voting rights advocate Valerie Morishige. While Director Robert Greenwald's urgent and timely film focuses on Stacy Abrams's gubernatorial campaign in Georgia, it exposes rampant voter suppression that affected the outcome of the 2018 midterm election and the threat it poses to our elections all across the nation in 2020. Please join us and learn how to prevent voter suppression right here in California.
