There's Still Time to Donate to the LWVP Virtual Food Drive with the Alameda County Community Food Bank

A big thank you to all who already have contributed to the LWVP Virtual Food Drive to support local families in need.  We have raised more than $5,000 so far.  The food drive runs through August 31, 2020 and you can make a donation here.  Of course, as we heard from Suzan Bateson, the Executive Director of the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB), there is always a need for contributions and volunteers, and they would be happy to have your support at any time.  We appreciate Ms. Bateson's time and her informative talk.  If you missed it, please feel free to watch a recording of the YouTube livestream.

Join LWVP for "Office Hours"

We have officially launched LWVP "Office Hours," which are open to both members and non-members. Our first coffee hour was a well attended and engaging conversation on voter registration, voter turnout, the census and redistricting. These casual Zoom calls will alternate between coffee hours (at 10:00 a.m.) on the second Tuesday of each month and cocktail hours (at 5:00 p.m.) on the fourth Thursday of every month. This is an open forum with a purpose of inspiring each other to become involved in all levels of public policy and governance, from Piedmont to Alameda County to California and to the United States.
Join us at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27th for our first cocktail hour. We look forward to seeing you!

LWVP Presents "Can you trust the polls? Be better informed about what polls are (and are not)" with Polling Expert Amy Simon

The Piedmont League of Women Voters will host an event on the credibility and mechanics of election polling with Amy Simon, a founding partner of Goodwin Simon Strategic Research. This free event will be live-streamed on the LWVP YouTube channel from 4:00-5:00pm on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

With the November 2020 election close at hand, viewers will learn how polls are constructed, fielded, and analyzed and will have a better understanding of how to interpret them.

A founding partner at Goodwin Simon Strategic Research, a national public opinion research firm, Amy Simon brings more than three decades of political experience to her work as a pollster and communications strategist. She conducts public opinion research on a variety of public policy issues domestically and globally.

Amy has special expertise in conducting innovative qualitative and quantitative research on socially controversial and emotionally complex issues, with particular attention to developing effective messaging that has yielded a winning record on ballot measure campaigns.

This event can be viewed on Zoom or on YouTube.  Viewers may submit questions through Zoom chat or YouTube livestream comments, or email to lwvpiedmont@gmail.org.

Friendly Reminders...

Two important tasks to check off your to-do list today:

1. Voter registration - verify that you are already registered to vote using either the County or State website.
2. US Census - submit your US Census form today. Submitting your form now will help ensure a more accurate count by allowing census workers to focus their efforts on hard to count communities.

If you have already completed these tasks, check with your friends and neighbors and encourage them to do the same!
