What Lies Ahead for Ukraine? Current Situation and Prospects

Please join us on Wednesday, November 2nd at 5pm Pacific time for a presentation and Q&A with former Ambassador Steven Pifer of The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University.

In early February 2022, former Ambassador Steven Pifer went to Kyiv to meet with colleagues and assess the situation.  Before Russia’s invasion, Ambassador Pifer correctly predicted that Putin would attack and that Ukrainians would fight back - hard.

Ambassador Pifer has been closely involved with Russia and Ukraine throughout his long career, beginning with his work as a Foreign Service Officer in Moscow, becoming Ambassador to Ukraine shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and serving as a key advisor to several US administrations. He is an expert on arms control and disarmament and is perfectly situated to assess possible nuclear escalation in Ukraine.  He will present insights on the political and military situation in Ukraine, as well as the most likely trajectory for the war.
